Gio is a project management, coordination and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) professional with more than 10 years experience in the fields of entrepreneurship, local participatory planning, economic development, water and sanitation, natural resource management, climate change, disaster risk reduction and management, public health, gender and urban infrastructure management in conflict and non-conflict areas. He is involved in implementing projects and activities in Canada, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
He is also a Ph.D. candidate and researcher at the School of Urban Planning, McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. His research interests are broadly drawn from urban and transportation planning, urban design, environmental psychology and aging. Gio's dissertation, under the supervision of Prof. Nik Luka, explores the person-environment interactions particularly in terms of outdoor mobility and accessibility to public transit among older adults.
Prior to McGill, Gio received his Master of Science at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Thailand under the AIT-Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) scholarship. He also completed his Bachelor of Arts degree (cum laude) at the Ateneo de Davao University as well as a Graduate Diploma in Economics at the University of Southeastern Philippines.
Aside from academia, Gio is a semi-professional photographer with interests in portrait, landscape and nature.
